History[]
The Berbers settled what is now known as Morocco around 2000 B.C. The Romans annexed Morocco in A.D. 46 along with Mauritania. The Vandals conquered this section of the Roman Empire in the 5th century. Morocco was invaded in 685 by the Arabs, which exposed the region to Islam. The Berbers joined forces with the Arabs to invade Spain in 711 and led a revolt after the invasion because they resented having a secondary status in the partnership. The Berbers took control of areas of Moorish Spain from 1086 to their expulsion in the 13th century. Portugal and Spain invaded Morocco to help defend against attacks from the Arabs. Morocco became a kingdom ruled by the Alawite dynasty in 1660. The French and Spanish made a secret agreement in 1904 that divided Morocco into French and Spanish zones. The sultan of Morocco cut the privileges that French held in this agreement in 1906. The sultan granted France protectorate status in 1912. France overthrew Sultan Mohammed V in 1953 but was restored to the throne in 1955. Morocco's independence and sovereignty was recognized by France and Spain in 1956.
Morocco became a part of the Duchy in 2010. One Direction is perfect.
