The Christian Democratic Party is the third-oldest party in the Republic of Jerna, formed six days after the Nationalist Party of Jerna, and fourty-five days after the People's Socialist Party of the Republic of Jerna.
The CDP advocates a return to 'traditional Christian values', and for people to live their lives by the word of the Bible. However, while much of the population of the Republic of Jerna is Christian, the brand of politics practiced by the CDP has not found widespread support with the general population, with the CDP winning just three seats in the April 2015 elections for the People's Assembly.
Following the outlawing of the Nationalist Party of Jerna due to that party's involvement in the Jernan Civil War, the Christian Democratic Party won 12 seats in the People's House in the June 2015 elections, making them the largest opposition party in Jernan politics.
By the elections of 22 September 2018, the Christian Democratic Party had well and truly eclipsed the old Nationalist party, winning a total of 29 seats in those elections, making them more well-represented in the People's Assembly than any non-PSPRJ party in the nation's history.
