David Ian Chapman (born 12 July 1968) is the Leader of His Majesty's Opposition in The British Isles; Leader of the Labour Party and Member of Parliament for Wales. He took office on 2 April 2008, succeeding former Labour leader, John Stimpson who lost three consecutive elections. Chapman was elected by the people of Wales in the October Elections, succeeding in his campaign and beating the conservative rival for local parliamentary elections. After the April Elections, Stimpson resigned as Leader of the Opposition after failing to win the election again. This enabled Chapman to be elected by senior officials of the Labour Party and officially allowed him to take over the party reigns. In his opening speech he said he would put forward clear and consice principles which will make up the new labour manifesto in time for the next general elections.
