John David Stimpson (born 22 February 1949) is the former Leader of His Majesty's Opposition in The British Isles; former Leader of the Labour Party and Member of Parliament for Greater London. He took office on 14 October 2007, becoming the first Leader of the Labour Party but was forced to resign in April 2008 after a third consecutive election defeat. He was elected by his party officials to lead the party, after showing a keen interest in the politics of The British Isles whilst also showing his strong socialist beliefs. These are the values and ideologies that he set the Labour party for his leadership campaign. Whilst he lost the October 2007 and January 2008 elections to the Conservatives, he remained leader of the Labour party, promising to 'move forwards' and gain the respect of the British people in time for the April Elections. Whilst he has already been defeated twice, it was unknown as to whether a third election defeat will mark the end of his Labour leadership. It was however confirmed that after the conservative pulled victory once more, Stimpson resigned as leader of his party and was succeeded by the party favourite David Chapman. In his final speech, Stimpson said that he would be resigning with effect of April 2, 2008 and that he wished his party every success for future election campaigns. His leadership will go down as total failure for some critics but he will be missed by many Labour peers. He maintains his grasp on Greater London as MP.
