The Presidential Guard of the Republic of Jerna is a small, elite military unit, tasked primarily with the protection of the President of the Republic of Jerna (presently Arrnea), as well as other important political figures in the Republic, such as the Prime Minister of the Worker's Assembly (presently Siegfried Schwarzwind).
The Presidential Guard is not under the command of the People's Armed Forces, and as such is not covered under the Defence Budget of the Republic. Instead, it is under the direct authority of the President of the People's Assembly, and takes its funding from the Administration Budget.
In times of war, the bulk of the Presidential Guard (approximately 35) serves on board the Avalon, President Arrnea's personal Armored Command Vehicle, as part of the 1st Assault Battalion of the People's Armed Forces. The remainder of the Guard pilots their M1 Battle Suits, under the command of Siegfried Schwarzwind in his M2 Battle Suit, the 'Chaos Edge'.
