The XXI Olympic Winter Games, also called the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, are an international sporting competition involving forty-six nations and over fourteen hundred athletes competing in eighty-eight separate events. The competition was held in Frankfurt am Main, Hesse, Germany, Großgermania from 12–28 February 2010. The XXI Winter Olympics was the second event of its kind held in Germany, which also hosted the Winter Olympics in 1936 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Among the nations in attendance were Disparu, Grand Besaid, and the United States of America.
Originally slated to be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the locale of the games was transferred to Frankfurt following the outbreak of the Canadian Crisis. Preparation for the event was rushed, and there was uncertainty among organizers leading up to 12 February as to whether the games would be able to be held on-schedule. The opening ceremony occurred as planned, however, with events beginning on 13 February.
